Accident – Death – Obituary News : A 26-year-old woman has been accused of throwing her six-year-old disabled son into a crocodile-infested river in Dandeli taluk, Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka, after a heated argument with her husband. The couple frequently fought over their elder son’s condition, as he had been mute since birth. The couple also has a two-year-old son, according to police reports.
The woman, identified as Savitri, and her husband Ravi Kumar, 27, were known to argue about their elder son’s disability, with Ravi questioning why Savitri had given birth to a mute child. The tension between the couple escalated, with Ravi allegedly telling Savitri to “throw the child away” on several occasions.
The tragic incident unfolded on Saturday evening when, following another argument over their son, Savitri reportedly threw him into a waste canal connected to the Kali river, known to be home to crocodiles. Neighbours alerted the police, who launched a search operation with the help of locals and divers. Despite their efforts, the child could not be found due to the darkness.
The following morning, the police recovered the child’s body from the river with severe injuries, bite marks all over the body, and a missing hand, indicating a crocodile attack. The body was sent for post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death, while investigations continue.
“We have filed a case at Dandeli Rural Police station under sections 109 (Abetment of any offence) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and have arrested both the husband and wife in connection with the incident,” a police officer stated.
The community has been left in shock by the tragic events, with many expressing their disbelief at the horrifying outcome of the quarrel between the couple. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of seeking help and support in times of distress, rather than resorting to violence or extreme measures.
