A 10-month-old girl who was reportedly taken after her mother died in New Mexico has been located by authorities, as announced by the FBI on Monday.
According to the FBI, one suspect has been apprehended in connection with the case.
The child, identified as Eleia Maria Torres, went missing after her mother and another woman were found dead from gunshot wounds while visiting Ned Houk Park near Clovis, New Mexico, on Friday afternoon. Clovis is situated approximately 100 miles southwest of Amarillo, Texas.
The deceased women were identified as Samantha Cisneros, Eleia’s mother, and Taryn Allen, both 23 years old.
During the investigation, authorities discovered an infant car seat, stroller, and baby bottle at the scene, prompting them to inquire with Cisneros’ family about her children. Through these conversations, it was revealed that Cisneros was also the mother of Eleia Maria Torres.
An Amber Alert was issued on Friday after police confirmed Eleia was missing.
Eleia’s older sister, who was present at the park, sustained a head injury and was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center for treatment before being transferred to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas.
Deputy Chief of Clovis Police Trevor Thron expressed sympathy for the victims and their family during a press conference, wishing for their swift recovery.
Authorities have not disclosed Eleia’s current condition or the exact circumstances surrounding her discovery.
Both fathers of the children involved in the incident cooperated with investigators throughout the process.
