A tragic incident unfolded at a gas station in Jacksonville, Florida, as a 32-year-old woman, identified as Demeshia Gainer, was shot and killed in the early hours of Saturday morning. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported that the shooting took place in the parking lot of a Daily’s gas station located on Roosevelt Boulevard in the Lakeshore area, adjacent to Fairfax.
According to authorities, the victim was shot outside a black four-door sedan parked in the gas station lot around 5:30 a.m. Surveillance footage obtained by detectives revealed that Gainer arrived at the gas station in a vehicle accompanied by a man, who is now being sought as a person of interest in the case.
Despite efforts by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department to save Gainer, she tragically succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Witnesses reported that the male companion, dressed in all-black attire, fled the scene following the shooting and was last seen heading south on Roosevelt Boulevard.
Local residents expressed shock and sadness over the incident, with one woman stating, “There’s no reason for it. And now there’s a family that’s going through a loss. And God bless them. I can’t believe it happened in this neighborhood.”
Another resident, who frequented the Daily’s gas station, remarked, “I was really surprised because this is such a good neighborhood and it’s always quiet. I feel free to walk my dog at any time. I never feel like I’m in danger. I’m shocked that this happened at that Daily’s.”
