A woman has been taken into custody following a devastating fire at a furniture store in Arizona which tragically resulted in the loss of two lives.

Reports from ABC 15 Arizona, Arizona’s Family, and Fox 10 Phoenix indicate that Katisha Susan Smith has been arrested in connection with the fire that took place at the J&J Sofa Manufacturing store in Phoenix on the evening of April 27. The fire claimed the lives of two individuals, who have not yet been identified.

Smith, aged 44, is facing charges of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of arson related to the incident. Additionally, she is also facing charges for unrelated drug offenses, as per information from media outlets.

Upon receiving reports of the fire at the location near 59th Avenue and Buckeye Road, officers from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and the Phoenix Fire Department rushed to the scene. Despite their efforts, the furniture store was completely engulfed by the flames and ultimately destroyed.

According to Arizona’s Family, a business owner in the vicinity provided surveillance footage to the authorities, capturing an SUV approaching the store with two individuals disembarking from the vehicle. The footage showed Smith handing an item to a man, who proceeded to set it alight and hurl it towards the store before both individuals quickly fled in the SUV.

Subsequent investigations by fire officials led to the discovery of one body at the scene, with a second body found the following day. The Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner has classified both deaths as homicides.

As per reports from Arizona’s Family and ABC 15, a police report revealed that Smith, identifiable by her tattoos, claimed to authorities that she was coerced into participating in the crime.

Fox 10 disclosed that Smith’s bail has been set at £1 million, with one of her alleged accomplices yet to be identified.
