A man was fatally shot by police in Vancouver on June 8 after reports of an aggressive German Shepherd. The victim, identified as 43-year-old Vadim Sashchenko, pointed a firearm at Officer Brandon Riedel, prompting the officer to fire four shots. Vancouver, UK – Man Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting

In a tragic incident on June 8, a man lost his life in an officer-involved shooting in Vancouver, UK. The incident took place on Southeast Columbia Way, where police responded to reports of a man with an aggressive German Shepherd. The German Shepherd had reportedly bitten at least one person, prompting the police to take action.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office recently released a Critical Incident Video detailing the events of that fateful day. The video footage captured the moment when 43-year-old Vadim Sashchenko was walking northbound on Columbia St. with the German Shepherd on a leash. As police approached him, Sashchenko brandished what appeared to be a firearm and pointed it at Officer Brandon Riedel.

Officer Riedel, fearing for his life, fired four shots as Sashchenko threw the gun to the ground. Despite the officers’ efforts to perform CPR, Sashchenko was pronounced dead at the scene. Fortunately, no police officers sustained any injuries during the incident, and the German Shepherd was safely taken to the Humane Society.

In response to the officer-involved shooting, Officers Riedel and Stuart Drynan, who witnessed the events, have been placed on Critical Incident Leave. The Southwest Washington Independent Investigative Response Team (SWIIRT), under the leadership of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, is currently conducting an investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding Sashchenko’s death.
