PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Phoenix police have recently made public the body-cam footage of a fatal officer-involved shooting that took place earlier this month. The incident involved a suspected motorcycle thief and resulted in the death of 27-year-old Joshua Main.

The Incident

On a Sunday afternoon, around 2 p.m. on June 2, a woman contacted 911 to report a man armed with a gun attempting to steal her boyfriend’s motorcycle during a sale. She indicated they were in an alley, although the exact location was unknown.

Expressing her fear for her son’s safety, she pleaded for immediate assistance, stating, “Please send somebody.”

Police Response

Upon determining the location, law enforcement officers swiftly arrived at the scene near 13th Street and Palm Lane. They quickly identified the suspect, who was seated on a motorcycle holding a handgun.

Body-cam footage reveals the suspect allegedly pointing the gun towards the approaching officers. In response, both officers discharged their weapons, resulting in the suspect falling to the ground.

Outcome

Following the shooting, the suspect was transported to a medical facility where he succumbed to his injuries. Apart from the suspect, no other individuals were harmed during the incident.

A Glock handgun was discovered in close proximity to where the suspect was shot. Authorities also found evidence suggesting that Main had discharged at least one round.

Investigation and Personnel

The officers involved in the shooting are affiliated with the Mountain View Precinct and possess four and six years of service, respectively. The case is presently under investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
