Local Teen Arrested for Felony Charges After Alleged Involvement in Robbery and Drive-By Shooting

A local teenager, Jared Lloyd Self, 18, residing at Maverick Place, found himself in hot water after being arrested on Sunday for his alleged participation in a robbery and battery incident that took place on May 13. The situation took a turn for the worse when Self was served with a warrant for unlawful discharge of a firearm from a vehicle, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison. This new charge came to light after allegations surfaced that Self was involved in a drive-by shooting on May 19.

Additional Felony Charges

Self, who is currently in custody with no bond, is facing a slew of charges including aggravated robbery, first-degree battery, first-degree false imprisonment, theft of property, theft by receiving of a firearm, and now, unlawful discharge of a firearm from a vehicle. Despite having no prior felony history, Self has several misdemeanor convictions and recently served time in jail for contempt of court and failure to appear on charges dating back to 2023.

Details of the Drive-By Shooting

The incident in question occurred on May 19 in the vicinity of School Street and Hobson Avenue. According to a probable cause affidavit, a male victim reported to the Hot Springs police that a silver Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck approached him while he was walking on Hobson Avenue. The victim, who recognized the passenger as “Jared,” saw him brandishing a rifle and subsequently heard multiple shots fired as he fled the scene unharmed.

The victim revealed that he and Self had crossed paths while both were inmates at the Garland County Detention Center a month prior, where a confrontation between the two escalated into a physical altercation. This prior connection, coupled with video evidence from the detention center and eyewitness accounts of the shooting, led to Self’s identification as the suspect in the drive-by shooting.

Prior Robbery and Arrest

Before the drive-by shooting incident, Self was implicated in a robbery case that occurred on May 13 at the Walmart parking lot on Central Avenue. The victim, who had arranged to meet one of the assailants to sell cellphones, identified Self as one of the perpetrators after being attacked and robbed by four individuals. Self was apprehended on Sunday with a stolen handgun in his possession, further complicating his legal predicament.

Self’s court appearance on Wednesday in Garland County District Court will shed more light on the charges levied against him and the potential consequences he may face if convicted. The community awaits further developments in this ongoing legal saga involving the troubled teenager.
