Police Response

Officers from Thalang Police Station were alerted to the fatal stabbing at around 7pm on May 27. Medical workers from Thalang Hospital rushed to the scene to provide first aid to Somkiat before transporting him to the hospital. Unfortunately, he passed away on the way due to the severity of his injuries.

Perpetrator Identified

The murderer was identified as a 15-year-old boy named Yoi, who reportedly suffers from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This condition can lead to impulsive actions and difficulty with concentration, which may have played a role in the tragic incident.

Familial Dispute

According to reports, Yoi lived with six family members in the rented room and had frequent arguments with his uncle, Somkiat. Yoi’s grandmother, Or, stated that the altercation escalated when Yoi became more aggressive than usual. He grabbed two knives and proceeded to confront Somkiat in his bedroom.

Tragic Turn of Events

Despite attempts to intervene, Yoi continued his violent attack on Somkiat, ultimately leading to his untimely death. It was revealed that Somkiat had been a father figure to Yoi, caring for him despite expressing concerns about his behaviour and phone addiction.

Legal Consequences

Yoi has been charged under Section 290 of the Criminal Law for causing the death of another person through attack. The prescribed penalty for this offense ranges from three to 15 years of imprisonment, with potential variations for individuals under the age of 20.

The incident has left the community in shock and serves as a tragic reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and support for individuals with conditions like ADHD. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time.
