Three individuals, including a teenage girl, tragically lost their lives due to electrocution in separate incidents in Dhaka following a stormy night caused by Cyclone Remal. Two of the victims were electrocuted in the Khilgaon Thana area, while the third incident occurred in Jatrabari. Despite being rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, all three were pronounced dead by the attending doctors. One of the victims, 15-year-old Liza Akhtar, touched a tin fence around her house in Jatrabari and lost her life. Another victim, 45-year-old Marium Begum, was electrocuted while walking through a water puddle in Khilgaon. In a similar incident in Taltola, a 25-year-old rickshaw driver named Rakib lost his life while charging his battery-powered rickshaw.

Heartbreaking Loss in Jatrabari

One of the victims, a 15-year-old girl named Liza Akhtar, tragically lost her life in Jatrabari. Originally from Noakhali’s Charjabbar Upazila, Liza and her family resided in a rented house in Jatrabari. According to her sister Mariam, the fatal accident occurred when Liza accidentally touched an electrified tin fence around their home, causing her to collapse. Despite being rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 10:30pm, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the emergency department.

Electrocution Tragedy in Khilgaon

Meanwhile, in the Khilgaon Thana area, two individuals lost their lives to electrocution within a short span of time. A 45-year-old woman named Marium Begum was electrocuted while walking through a puddle of water that had been electrified by a power pole in Ice Cream Alley in the Shipahibag area of Khilgaon. She was found unconscious and was pronounced dead by doctors at the hospital.

Devastating Incident in Taltola

In another heartbreaking incident in Khilgaon’s Taltola, a 25-year-old rickshaw driver named Rakib lost his life to electrocution while charging his battery-powered rickshaw. Despite being rescued and rushed to the hospital, doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Rakib, hailing from Uttar Charail village in Jhalakathi’s Sadar Upazila, left behind a grieving family and community.

These tragic incidents serve as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by electrical hazards, especially during adverse weather conditions. The loss of these three lives has left a void in their families and communities, highlighting the importance of electrical safety awareness and precautions in everyday life.
