Tragic Discovery in Surjani Town
In a heartbreaking incident that shook the residents of Surjani Town, the body of a young man was discovered hanging from a tree on Monday. The victim, identified as 21-year-old Hasnain, was found in Kaneez Fatima Society, Phase-III. Surjani SHO Asadullah Agha revealed that the deceased’s mouth was sealed with a tap, indicating foul play.
The authorities strongly suspect that Hasnain was murdered elsewhere and his body was later hanged at the scene to mislead investigators. Hailing from Hyderabad, as per his CNIC details, the young man’s tragic demise has left the community in shock. The body was promptly transferred to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for necessary medico-legal procedures.
Tragic End to a Newly-Wed Life
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Manzoor Colony, a newly-wed man took his own life by hanging himself. The 22-year-old, Saeed Ahmed, had tied the knot just three months ago. However, a dispute arose between the couple when Saeed demanded that his wife send her five children from a previous marriage to live with her relatives.
The argument escalated, leading Saeed to commit suicide by using a belt to hang himself from a window in their home. The body was later moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for further examination. This tragic turn of events has left the neighbourhood in mourning.
Unexplained Tragedy in Akhter Colony
Adding to the day’s somber events, a 30-year-old woman named Maria took her own life in Akhter Colony by hanging herself in Sector-B. The exact reason behind her drastic decision remains unclear as the authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding her untimely death. Maria’s body was also taken to JPMC for post-mortem procedures.
Arrests Made in Extortion Case
In a positive development, law enforcement officials announced the arrest of two suspected gangsters involved in extorting Rs50 million from traders in the old City area. The suspects, identified as Abu Bakr and Abdul Ghafoor Chohan, were part of a criminal outfit led by Wasiullah Lakho.
City SSP Arif Aziz disclosed that the duo had been using foreign SIM cards to demand extortion money from local businesses. Their illicit activities came to light when they attempted to collect more money in the Napier area and were apprehended by the police. The suspects had been operating since 2020, exploiting businesses in Timber Market, Garden, and nearby areas.
Notably, one of the arrested suspects, Abu Bakr, had a prior arrest record for possession of hand grenades and firearms. He had been previously detained by Saddar police and incarcerated. The police are now working to dismantle the criminal network responsible for terrorising the local community.
These recent incidents have underscored the need for improved safety measures and vigilance in the city to prevent further tragedies.
