Coimbatore: An alarming incident of motorcycle theft has been reported in the bustling city of Coimbatore, where four culprits, including a 17-year-old boy, were apprehended by the diligent police force on Saturday. The authorities successfully recovered a total of 12 stolen motorcycles from the perpetrators, shedding light on the rampant issue of vehicle theft in the area.

The miscreants, identified as A Suryaprakash, S Manoj, the minor boy, all hailing from Velandipalayam, and A Azharuddin from Thadagam in Coimbatore district, were known to operate in the busy areas of RS Puram, Variety Hall Road, and Saibaba Colony. Their modus operandi involved stealing motorcycles and then passing them on to Azharuddin in exchange for a sum of ₹2,500 per stolen vehicle. Azharuddin, in turn, would pledge the motorcycles to others for a higher price of ₹4,500 to ₹5,000.

A senior police officer elaborated, stating that the trio of Suryaprakash, Manoj, and the juvenile accomplice possessed over 20 counterfeit bike keys, enabling them to effortlessly unlock parked vehicles on the roadside and make a swift getaway on the stolen motorcycles. The authorities managed to track down the suspects by analyzing CCTV footage from the police station limits in RS Puram, leading to the successful arrest of the culprits and the recovery of the stolen vehicles.

Following legal procedures, the minor suspect was presented before the juvenile justice board on Sunday and subsequently placed at an observation home for juveniles. Meanwhile, the other three accused were remanded to the Coimbatore central prison as the investigation continues to unravel the depths of their criminal activities.
