An Indian expat in her late 30s tragically fell to her death in Fujairah on Saturday morning. The deceased, identified as Shanifa Babu, lost her life after falling from the balcony of her apartment on the 19th floor of the building she resided in. Married and a mother of two daughters, Shanifa was a well-known social media influencer with a large following on platforms like Instagram and TikTok.
The incident, which took place around 9 am, left her family and friends in shock. At the time of her death, her mother was visiting her from Dubai. According to a family friend, who chose to remain anonymous, Shanifa’s husband, mother, and children were present in the apartment when the tragic event occurred. Shanifa, who had grown up in the UAE, had her entire extended family residing in the country. Her mother had travelled from Dubai to Fujairah to spend time with her daughter just before the unfortunate incident.
Both Shanifa’s mother and husband spent hours at the police station completing necessary formalities following the incident. The deceased’s body was taken to the mortuary of Fujairah Hospital for further procedures. Shanifa’s husband, an entrepreneur with his own construction firm in the emirate, and Shanifa hailed from the southern Indian state of Kerala.
As a social media influencer, Shanifa was active on Instagram and TikTok, where she shared content about her daily life and family, amassing a significant following of over 90,000 followers on both platforms. The news of her sudden demise left her followers and acquaintances in shock, with many expressing their condolences and disbelief on social media platforms.
