Three Christian Missionaries Killed in Haiti Ambush

Three Christian missionaries from Missions in Haiti were tragically shot and killed in an ambush by a gang in Haiti, the Oklahoma-based group confirmed on Friday. The missionaries, who were working as full-time missionaries, were identified as Missouri State Representative Ben Baker’s daughter Natalie Lloyd and son-in-law Davy Lloyd, along with a third individual whose identity has not been released.

Details of the Ambush

The missionaries were taking shelter in a house when gang members began shooting at the residence at about 9 p.m. CDT (0200 GMT) Thursday, according to two Facebook posts by Missions in Haiti. The couple was leaving a church when they were ambushed by three trucks full of gang members. Davy Lloyd was taken to a house, tied up, beaten, and the group’s trucks and some items were stolen before the gang members left the scene.

Another gang arrived at the scene, and the situation escalated into a full attack mode. The missionaries, including Jude, called a leader of the organization on a satellite phone and informed them that their lives were in danger.

Escalating Gang Violence in Haiti

This tragic incident comes amidst months of escalating gang violence in Haiti, which has forced the government into retreat. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has warned that the country is on the brink of becoming a failed state. The main international airport in Port-au-Prince recently reopened after being shut for nearly three months due to deadly gang-related violence. However, gangs continue to control much of the capital, and Haiti’s main seaport remains closed.

“Unfortunately, this serves as a reminder that the security situation in Haiti cannot wait – too many innocent lives are being lost,” said State Department spokesman Matthew Miller in a statement.

Heartbreak and Grief

Missouri State Representative Ben Baker expressed his profound grief over the loss of his daughter and son-in-law, stating, “My heart is broken in a thousand pieces. I’ve never felt this kind of pain.” Davy Lloyd was the son of Missions in Haiti’s founders, David and Alicia Lloyd, who established the organization in 2000.

Missions in Haiti described the harrowing events that unfolded during the ambush, highlighting the brutal nature of the attack. The tragic loss of three dedicated missionaries has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting calls for increased security measures in the region.

As the investigation into the ambush continues, the global community mourns the loss of these brave individuals who dedicated their lives to serving others in need.
