(Auburn, IN) (23rd May 2024) – Detectives from the Indiana State Police Fort Wayne Post are currently investigating the tragic death of a seventeen-year-old teenager in Auburn.
Details of the Incident
The incident took place at approximately 1:50 pm this afternoon in the 1100 block of Irene Street, situated on the west side of Auburn. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call reporting a possible stabbing, prompting the immediate response of Auburn police officers.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered the teenager lying unresponsive in the yard of 1108 Irene Street, with what appeared to be a stab wound. Despite the efforts of Auburn Fire Department and EMS personnel to administer lifesaving medical care, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene by the DeKalb County Coroner’s Office.
Person of Interest
An adult male has been identified as a person of interest in the investigation and has been taken in for questioning. Investigators believe that the incident was an isolated one between the two males involved.
Investigation and Assistance
At the request of the DeKalb County Prosecutor, detectives from the Fort Wayne Post have taken the lead in the investigation, with support from an ISP Crime Scene Investigator, Auburn Police Department, the DeKalb County Coroner’s Office, and the DeKalb Prosecutor’s Office.
The victim’s identity is currently being withheld pending notifications to the family. An autopsy has been scheduled for tomorrow morning at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center in Fort Wayne.
