Human remains identified as Jeffrey Jones have been recovered at the former home of Herb Baumeister in Westfield, Indiana. Jones is the third person to be identified from remains found at Fox Hollow Farm, where Baumeister, an Indiana serial killer, disposed of his victims’ bodies. The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office conducted an extensive forensic genetic genealogy investigation to identify Jones, who was reported missing in 1993. With more than 10,000 pieces of remains recovered at the site, investigators are still working to identify four other DNA profiles, bringing the total number of known victims to 12. Human Remains Identified at Former Home of Herb Baumeister in Westfield, Indiana
In a recent development, the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office has identified another set of human remains recovered at the former home of Herb Baumeister in Westfield, Indiana. The remains, originally recovered in 1996 from Fox Hollow Farm, have been identified as belonging to Jeffrey Jones.
Identification of Jeffrey Jones
Jeffrey Jones is the third person to have been identified from remains found on the farm. Last year, other remains found on the site were identified as Allen Livingston, who was reported missing in 1993. Jones, a Fillmore resident, was reported missing in August 1993.
Background on Fox Hollow Farm
Fox Hollow Farm was the former residence of Baumeister, an Indiana serial killer believed to have lured gay men to his home in the mid-80s and mid-90s before killing them and disposing of their bodies on the property.
Forensic Genetic Genealogy Investigation
The identification of Jones’ remains was made possible through an extensive forensic genetic genealogy investigation conducted by the coroner’s office and the FBI. Over 10,000 pieces of remains, including bones, fragments, and body parts, have been recovered at Fox Hollow Farm, with four other DNA profiles still unidentified, bringing the total number of known victims to 12.
Challenges and Commitment
Due to the condition of the remains, which were found burnt and crushed, the investigation has been extremely challenging. However, the team of law enforcement and forensic specialists working on the case remain committed to finding answers. Special thanks were extended to the FBI, Indiana State Police Laboratory, Dr. Krista Latham of the Biology & Anthropology Department at the University of Indianapolis, and DNA experts from Othram Laboratory in Texas.
Next Steps
The four unidentified DNA profiles will be sent to the FBI for further genetic genealogy investigation. The investigation into Baumeister’s activities began in 1996 when his son discovered bones on the family’s estate. Baumeister passed away shortly after.
