New Delhi: In an exclusive interview with Republic Media Network’s Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar disclosed that the NCP MLA had visited the police station shortly after the tragic Porsche crash that claimed the lives of two young techies in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar. “He did pay a visit to the police station. I couldn’t prevent him from doing so,” Kumar revealed during the LIVE TV discussion.

When questioned about the purpose behind the MLA’s visit to the police station, Kumar responded, “He has the right to visit for whatever reason he deems fit.”

Further probed by Arnab regarding the specific motive behind the MLA’s visit and the public’s entitlement to know the details, Kumar stated, “Yes, the audience has every right to know. It’s important to understand that a public representative has the freedom to visit a police station, and we cannot deny his entry.”

The Police Commissioner’s Stand

Despite being pressed for details on the reason behind the NCP MLA’s visit to the police station, Pune’s top cop refrained from commenting on the motive.

When repeatedly asked to shed light on why the NCP MLA was received at the police station and whether he exerted any pressure on behalf of the accused individuals, Kumar maintained that the MLA’s visit was not intended to influence the police’s actions.

Clarifying that the MLA did not attempt to pressure the police on behalf of the accused involved in the case, Kumar emphasized that the police station is a public space, and therefore, the MLA was within his rights to visit.

“Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but our actions are governed by the law, which is exactly what we adhered to. I am very clear on this matter,” Kumar affirmed.

When asked if he was exonerating the MLA of any allegations of pressuring the police, the Police Commissioner highlighted the importance of focusing on the final outcomes of the case.

Declining to comment on the decisions made by the Juvenile Justice Board or the courts, Amitesh Kumar stated, “I can confirm that we have taken the most stringent measures possible since Sunday morning. By invoking section 304 of the IPC for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which carries a 10-year sentence, and pursuing the case as an adult under the Juvenile Justice Act due to the heinous nature of the crime, we demonstrated our commitment to justice from the outset.”

“Even before the public outcry, we had filed charges against the father and the pub owners and managers under sections 75 and 77 of the JJ Act. This marks a significant step where a father has been charged, and section 77 has been invoked against those serving alcohol to minors,” the Pune Police Commissioner added.

Minor Accused Bail Revoked

Amidst the uproar following the tragic road crash on May 19 involving a Porsche driven by a 17-year-old in Pune, in which two individuals lost their lives, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) cancelled the minor’s bail and placed him in a rehabilitation facility until June 5.

The fatal incident occurred when the Porsche, allegedly driven by the juvenile under the influence of alcohol, collided with two motorbike riders in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar, resulting in the tragic deaths of two IT professionals, Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both residents of Madhya Pradesh.

The community remains in shock over this devastating incident, and the legal proceedings continue to unfold in the pursuit of justice.
