ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 9) – A tragic multi-vehicle crash near a mall in Rochester has left a Minnesota State Trooper injured and claimed the life of an 18-year-old woman. The incident occurred on Saturday, May 18, near the Apache Mall, a popular shopping destination in the heart of Rochester.
The Crash Details
Rochester police reported that the three-vehicle crash unfolded near the mall premises. The preliminary investigation suggests that the driver of a Ford Focus was travelling west on 12th Street Southwest when they attempted to turn into the mall entrance. Unfortunately, their vehicle collided with the State trooper’s squad car, which was travelling east on the same street.
Following this initial collision, the driver of a Toyota RAV4, who was leaving the mall and waiting to turn, was struck by the Ford Focus. The impact sent the RAV4 careening into a nearby ditch, according to police reports.
As a result of the crash, six individuals sustained injuries. A 32-year-old State Trooper and a 20-year-old ride-along passenger were rushed to the hospital with undisclosed injuries. The 36-year-old RAV4 driver and their 12-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.
The Ford Focus occupants, including a 21-year-old driver and two passengers aged 19 and 18, were also transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment. Tragically, the 18-year-old passenger, identified as Olivia Flores of Owatonna, later succumbed to her injuries.
