Heartbreaking news struck the community of Woodstock last week when a single-vehicle rollover crash near Dean Street and Gayle Drive left two occupants of the car in critical condition. Unfortunately, one of the victims, a 29-year-old mother of two, succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office sprang into action around 10:45 a.m. on a fateful Wednesday morning upon receiving reports of a vehicle crash with entrapment at the intersection of Dean Street and Gayle Drive in unincorporated Woodstock.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found a scene of devastation – a single-vehicle rollover with heavy damage. One victim was trapped inside the vehicle, while another had been ejected from the car and was receiving CPR from a bystander.

Life-Saving Efforts Underway

Paramedics wasted no time in administering life-saving measures to the victims. The adult female who had been ejected was successfully resuscitated, thanks to the swift actions of the first responders. Meanwhile, firefighters worked tirelessly to extricate the second victim from the wreckage.

Both women sustained life-threatening injuries, prompting the request for two medical helicopters. A LifeNet helicopter airlifted the driver to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, while the passenger was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital before being airlifted to the same medical centre in Libertyville.

Tragic Outcome for Passenger

Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the passenger, identified as Belen Estrada, tragically passed away in the hospital on Friday. The preliminary coroner’s investigation revealed that Estrada succumbed to blunt force injuries sustained in the crash.

Details of the Crash Investigation

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office conducted a preliminary investigation into the incident, revealing that the 2003 Toyota Corolla involved in the crash was travelling southbound on Dean Street. The vehicle veered off the left side of the roadway, re-entered the road, crossed into the northbound lane, and ultimately rolled over, striking a tree before coming to rest on its roof.

Factors Contributing to the Crash

Authorities indicated that alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors in the crash. The driver was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the incident, while the passenger was not.
