A woman was arrested for DUI and other charges after driving past a police barricade onto the scene of a fatal accident investigation in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Patricia Garcia Meza, 30, of Salt Lake City, was arrested for driving under the influence, failure to observe barricade, possession of controlled substance marijuana/spice, reckless driving, among other charges. Pleasant Grove police officers tried to stop Meza as she drove towards the accident scene, nearly hitting officers and a Life Flight helicopter carrying a burn victim patient. Meza blew a breath test of .118 blood alcohol content and was found with marijuana and paraphernalia in her vehicle. She was booked into Utah County Jail.

The incident took place in Utah County, where Pleasant Grove police officers were assisting American Fork Police and Utah Highway Patrol at the site of a fatal crash. As officers were on scene, they noticed a vehicle approaching. Despite attempts to stop the car, the driver, later identified as Meza, continued towards the police lights and onto the accident scene.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Meza’s actions put the lives of officers and medical personnel at risk. She nearly collided with several officers and a Life Flight helicopter carrying a burn victim patient and emergency medical technicians.

Officers were able to halt Meza’s vehicle and remove her from the car. Upon closer inspection, police detected the smell of alcohol on her breath, prompting sobriety tests. Meza’s blood alcohol content (BAC) was recorded at .118, resulting in her arrest.
Authorities also discovered marijuana and paraphernalia within reach of the driver’s seat in Meza’s vehicle. Additionally, it was revealed that she was driving with a suspended driver’s license. Meza was subsequently booked into Utah County Jail on the various charges.
