The Tragic Danbury Wrong-Way Crash

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a Connecticut man, Charles Connors, 34, from Milford, is facing manslaughter charges following a fatal wrong-way crash that occurred in Danbury last fall. At 1:53 a.m. on that fateful day, troopers rushed to the scene just north of an on-ramp near Exit 7 on Route 7 South in Danbury. The crash involved a gray Honda Accord driven by Danielle Dempsey and a black Dodge Challenger operated by Charles Connors. Both vehicles collided in the left lane, leading to devastating consequences.

The Devastating Outcome

Upon arrival, the state police found Danielle Dempsey unresponsive in her vehicle. She was promptly transported to Danbury Hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries less than an hour later. Connors, who was driving the Dodge Challenger, was also found unconscious and trapped in his vehicle. He was rescued and taken to the same hospital with serious injuries.

The Investigation Unfolds

Following the crash, Charles Connors was interviewed by troopers at the hospital. Allegedly displaying signs of intoxication, Connors denied drinking or driving under the influence. However, toxicology reports later revealed that his blood alcohol content was significantly above the legal limit, further implicating him in the incident.

Social Media Evidence

A critical piece of evidence in the investigation was social media posts from an account linked to Connors. The account, with the username “chuckconnors203,” showcased multiple videos and photos of Connors at various bars, seemingly consuming alcoholic beverages just hours before the fatal crash.

Eyewitness Testimony

An eyewitness driving on Route 7 that night reported seeing the Dodge Challenger driven by Connors travelling in the wrong direction just before the tragic collision. The witness narrowly avoided a collision by swerving into the guardrail, only to witness the aftermath of the crash moments later.

Legal Ramifications

With mounting evidence against him, an arrest warrant was issued for Charles Connors on May 7. He was subsequently apprehended by the Milford Police Department and taken into custody. Facing charges of second-degree manslaughter, reckless endangerment, and driving under the influence, Connors was held on a $300,000 bond pending his arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.
