The accused, identified as Mohammad Umar (28), a resident of Mehrauli, was arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly kidnapping and sexually harassing the minor.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Ankit Chauhan stated that a PCR call was received regarding the kidnapping of the girl at Kotla Mubarakpur police station on May 6 at 3 pm. “Staff was immediately rushed to the spot,” he told news agency PTI.

“Based on the family’s complaint, an FIR was lodged under section 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code, and an investigation was initiated,” the police official added.

As soon as the complaint was received, the police team thoroughly questioned the family members and relatives of the girl. The teams started working on all aspects and gathered vital clues from the analysis of CCTV footage in the area.

The police examined multiple CCTV cameras in Bapu Park, Kotla Mubarakpur, Uday Chand Marg, Gurudwara road, Pilanji village, and South Extension -1. The accused was spotted coming from the South Extension -1 bus stop, according to PTI.

“We checked more CCTV footage of DTC buses to identify the accused. The details of the kidnapped girl were uploaded on ZIPNET (the networking system of police of adjoining states),” the DCP mentioned.

On Tuesday, the police arrested the accused, Umar, from the Andheria Mod slum area, and successfully rescued the girl.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed that he crafts small glass toys and was in Kotla to collect glass. He noticed the girl playing and decided to abduct her.

After being rescued, the girl was reunited with her family and underwent a medical examination.
