Three brave women have come forward to sue the El Monte Union High School District, alleging that they were sexually abused during their time as students at Rosemead High School in El Monte, California.
The women, who have chosen to remain anonymous, detailed their harrowing experiences of sexual assault at the hands of various school staff members. One of the victims, known as Jane C.H. Doe, expressed the difficulty of speaking out about the abuse, stating, “It’s hard to stand up. It’s hard to come forward.”
Another survivor, Jane J.L. Doe, revealed that her tennis coach abused her when she was just 14 years old. She described how the coach went to great lengths to keep their illicit relationship a secret from her family and other school staff.
The victims are calling for a thorough investigation by the California Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Education into the alleged “rampant sexual abuse” that they claim has plagued Rosemead High School and the El Monte Union High School District.
Decades-Long Pattern of Abuse
According to their attorney, Michael Carrillo, this disturbing pattern of abuse has persisted for decades within the district. He described Rosemead High School as a “safe haven for predators and perpetrators,” accusing school officials of failing to properly report instances of child abuse.
Despite the district’s denial of any wrongdoing, the victims are determined to seek justice not only for themselves but also for other students who may have been victims of abuse.
