FARGO — The ongoing investigation into a brutal assault in downtown Fargo has taken a significant step forward as the final two suspects have been identified and charged. However, the whereabouts of 26-year-old Esiquio Hernandez and 48-year-old John Hernandez, both from Moorhead, remain unknown.
The charges against the Hernandez duo stem from a violent altercation that occurred outside Sports Bar on the 600 block of NP Avenue in early April. Court documents refer to the incident as a “brawl” that resulted in two men, Derek Behrens and Samuel Pikula, sustaining serious injuries. Esiquio Hernandez faces two counts of aggravated assault and an additional robbery charge in connection with the attack.
According to the victims, Behrens and Pikula intervened to stop a fight as the bars were closing in downtown Fargo. Unfortunately, they were met with violence from a group of six individuals, leading to the serious injuries they suffered. Esiquio Hernandez, identified as Suspect #2, allegedly assaulted both Behrens and Pikula, taking personal belongings from Behrens and delivering multiple blows to Pikula.
John Hernandez, known as Suspect #1 in court documents, was involved in the initial altercation that prompted Behrens and Pikula to intervene. He is accused of delivering a kick that rendered Behrens unconscious during the altercation. Both suspects are facing charges of aggravated assault for their roles in the incident.
The police have already identified and charged four other individuals in connection with the assault. Travice Ledoux, Angelica Hernandez, Terrell Smith, and Sergio Granados have all been implicated in varying degrees of aggravated assault.
