Xavier Velez, a 23-year-old resident of Vernon, was identified as the suspect. Police responded to the incident, where Velez allegedly chased the victim after she fled on foot. The nearby Skinner Road School was secured as a precaution. Velez was arrested on multiple charges, including first-degree threatening with a firearm and first-degree assault. Man Allegedly Threatens Woman with Gun in Domestic Dispute

A man, identified as 23-year-old Xavier Velez of Vernon, allegedly threatened a woman with a handgun during a domestic dispute at a home in Vernon on Tuesday. The incident occurred around 1 p.m. on an unspecified street in the area. The situation escalated when Velez chased the victim for a short distance as she fled the residence on foot.

School Placed in “Secured” Mode

Officials with the nearby Skinner Road School were made aware of the incident and decided to secure the building while officers from the Vernon Police Department investigated the situation. This precaution was taken to ensure the safety of the students and staff at the school.

Firearm Found in Wooded Area

After detaining Velez, who did not have a firearm on him at the time of his arrest, a police K-9 later discovered the gun believed to be involved in the incident in a wooded area not far from where Velez was apprehended. The firearm had a serial number that had been tampered with and a high-capacity drum magazine attached to it.

Charges and Arrest

Velez was arrested on a number of charges, including first-degree threatening with a firearm, first-degree assault, third-degree assault, disorderly conduct, carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal alteration of a firearm identification, first-degree reckless endangerment, illegal possession of a large-capacity magazine, and interfering with a police officer. He was held on a $500,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Wednesday.
