Nagpur: Suspecting his wife’s character, a man axed her to death in Suradevi under Koradi police station on Wednesday morning. Police have registered a case of murder and arrested the accused, Girdhari Bharadwaj (65). The deceased has been identified as Indirabai Bharadwaj (55). The Bharadwaj family runs a grocery shop and pan kiosk at their home. Girdhari suspected that Indirabai was having an illicit relationship so he regularly used to get into fights with his wife and their son, Devendra.
On Wednesday, Devendra opened the shop. Indirabai was sitting nearby when Girdhari approached her with an axe. Girdhari started beating Indirabai. Devendra tried to intervene but Girdhari pushed him away and hit Indirabai in the head with the axe, causing her to fall down and die.
In another incident, the social service branch (SSB) of city police busted an online sex racket operating at a hotel in the MIDC area. Police have rescued five women and arrested five persons for pushing them into flesh trade. The arrested accused are identified as Yash Balode (20), Shubham Malkhede (22), Sanket Titarmare (25), Manoj Khandare (36), and Sagar Bijve (31), while the absconding suspects are Rahul and Manoj Agrawal, also known as Gagan Thakur. Police rescued five girls, including one from Delhi and two each from Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The accused were booked under the Prevention of Immoral Traffic Act (PITA).
In a separate incident, Manoj Gupta (52) was duped of Rs15.50 lakh after being promised gold at low rates by a man posing as a family friend between December last year and February this year. Cops said Gupta had received a call from Ajit Chaudhari, a friend of his deceased father, who suggested that he knew a woman who had gold dust and wanted to sell it at a low cost. Gupta gave Rs15.50 lakh to Chaudhari, who absconded with the cash.
