According to official court records, the Blue Springs police received a distressing call regarding a shooting on the evening of April 13, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m. Upon arrival at Wilbur Young Park in Blue Springs, officers discovered two victims who were later identified as LaDronal Hamilton Jr., aged 19, from Kansas City, Missouri, and Karmello Matlock, aged 20, from Blue Springs, Missouri.
The victims were found at separate locations within the park, with one near the parking lot close to the volleyball courts and the other near a basketball court. Witnesses at the scene reported that what started as a physical altercation quickly escalated into a tragic shooting. Evidence including a pistol, shell casings, bullets, and bullet fragments were collected by the police. Additionally, detectives reviewed surveillance footage that clearly showed the sequence of events leading up to the shooting.
