KANSAS CITY —A man from the Kansas City area has been charged in connection with a tragic shooting that took place in a park located in Blue Springs, as announced by Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.

Marquis Earl Savannah, a 19-year-old from Blue Springs, now faces serious felony charges of Murder in the 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action.

Details of the Incident

According to official court records, the Blue Springs police received a distressing call regarding a shooting on the evening of April 13, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m. Upon arrival at Wilbur Young Park in Blue Springs, officers discovered two victims who were later identified as LaDronal Hamilton Jr., aged 19, from Kansas City, Missouri, and Karmello Matlock, aged 20, from Blue Springs, Missouri.

The victims were found at separate locations within the park, with one near the parking lot close to the volleyball courts and the other near a basketball court. Witnesses at the scene reported that what started as a physical altercation quickly escalated into a tragic shooting. Evidence including a pistol, shell casings, bullets, and bullet fragments were collected by the police. Additionally, detectives reviewed surveillance footage that clearly showed the sequence of events leading up to the shooting. The defendant, Marquis Earl Savannah, was seen approaching one of the victims and firing multiple shots, while a second suspect also drew a handgun and fired shots.
