A Rockwell man, identified as 55-year-old David Mize Sr., is facing two child-related charges, as per the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred in October 2023, when the parents of a 13-year-old reported to the authorities that their child had been sexually abused. Following an investigation, detectives determined that the assault had likely taken place at a home on October 13, 2023, with the victim’s family reporting the incident to deputies the next day.

Mize was apprehended on Friday at his residence and has been charged with one count of taking indecent liberties with a minor. He was able to post a $15,000 bond. Additionally, Mize was served with a warrant for contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. This charge stemmed from an incident on April 30, where deputies responded to a wooded area in the 600 block of Zion Church Road.

In the wooded area, Mize was found in a vehicle that was inoperable, accompanied by an underage girl who lacked basic necessities such as food, running water, housing, and transportation to and from school.
