The tragic occurrence occurred on the night of April 28, when 55-year-old Dattatreya Bhoir was returning to Mumbai with his friend Pradeep Shirose and two others after attending a friend’s Haldi ceremony in Ulhasnagar. The man was reportedly attacked with a belt and knife, with a video of the incident circulating on social media and gaining viral attention. Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the incident, while the search for two additional individuals is ongoing.
Details of the Incident
The altercation between the two groups, who were in an intoxicated state, escalated in the train leading to one individual using a belt to beat the elderly man before stabbing him. The victim was rushed to the hospital with the knife still lodged in his stomach, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Viral Video Footage
The video that went viral on social media captured a man in a maroon shirt using his belt to assault the victim. The elderly man was visibly bleeding from his stomach. The attackers have been identified as 40-year-old Amol Pardeshi and 21-year-old Tanji Kumar Jammuwal, who perpetrated the attack between Titwala and Vashind on a local train heading towards Kasara.
Police Investigation and Charges
The police have stated that on the fateful night of April 28, between 2.15 to 2.30 am, Dattatreya sustained injuries during the clash between the two groups on the train journey from Titwala to Vashind. He suffered a fatal knife wound to his stomach and tragically passed away while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
“Initially, a case was registered for fighting in this incident, but following the victim’s death, the charges have been upgraded to murder. Two suspects have been taken into custody, while efforts to locate the remaining two individuals are actively ongoing,” confirmed the police statement.
