Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, May 4, 2024) – The victim in this case has been identified as James Chambers III, 26. As a result of the continued investigation, detectives have identified Zacharias Lowery, 29, as the suspect in this case. On Saturday, May, 4 2024, CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested the suspect. Mr. Lowery was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown (601 East Trade St.) to speak with detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Lowery was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. The victim’s next of kin have been notified of this arrest.

The incident took place in the 5100 block of Hoover Drive in the North Division of Charlotte. On Thursday, May 2, 2024, at approximately 10:44 p.m., officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon with injury call for service in that area. Upon arrival, officers found a male victim with apparent gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.
