In the latest development related to the Poonch terror attack, six locals were detained by police on Sunday for allegedly aiding terrorists with weapons in Saturday’s attack on IAF’s convoy. Security officials conducted a major search operation to nab the terrorists responsible for the attack that killed one official and injured five others. The People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFP), a Pakistan-based militant-operated group, claimed responsibility for the attack. Poonch police, assisted by paramilitary forces, had been carrying out searches in the town since Friday following inputs about the movement of suspected persons. In a separate incident, a Muslim cleric in Surat was arrested for allegedly threatening BJP leaders and being part of a conspiracy to kill a right-wing leader.

New Delhi: In the latest update regarding the Poonch terror attack, police have detained six locals on suspicion of aiding terrorists with weapons during Saturday’s assault on an Indian Air Force (IAF) convoy. The incident took place in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir near Shahsitar.

Security officials have intensified efforts to apprehend the terrorists responsible for the attack, which resulted in the death of one official and injuries to five others. Reports suggest that the People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFP), a militant group based in Pakistan, has claimed responsibility for the assault.

According to the IAF, “An Indian Air Force vehicle convoy was attacked by militants in the Poonch district of J&K, near Shahsitar. Cordon and search operations are currently underway in the area by local military units. The convoy has been secured, and further investigation is ongoing.”

The Poonch police, supported by paramilitary forces, had been conducting searches in the town since Friday following reports of suspected individuals’ movements. However, no arrests were made during the operation, as per officials cited by PTI.

Gujarat Terror Attack: Muslim Cleric Arrested in Surat

In another significant development, a 27-year-old Muslim Cleric was apprehended by Surat Police for allegedly threatening BJP leaders Nupur Sharma and Telangana MLA Raja Singh. The cleric, identified as Maulvi Abubakr Timol, is also accused of involvement in a plot to assassinate a right-wing leader.

Timol, who worked as a manager at a thread factory and offered private tuition on Islam to Muslim children, was reportedly found to be part of a WhatsApp group spreading content to incite communal violence during the elections. Police initiated an investigation based on this information.

Media reports suggest that the arrested cleric had planned to target Sanatan Sangh national chairman Updesh Rana. He allegedly made around 15 threatening calls to Rana, vowing to kill him similar to Kamlesh Tiwari, the president of the Hindu Samaj Party in Uttar Pradesh, who was murdered in 2019 in Lucknow.
