The Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (DMH) detained 40-year-old Yong Yang after his parents reported his erratic and threatening behaviour in the 400 block of South Gramercy Place.

After completing the necessary paperwork to place him on 72 hours of psychiatric observation, DMH requested assistance from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). An emergency ambulance was dispatched to transport Yang to a nearby hospital.

Police Response

Upon arrival, LAPD officers attempted to communicate with Yang and convince him to leave the residence peacefully. Despite numerous efforts, Yang refused to cooperate. Eventually, officers gained access to the residence and found Yang armed with a large kitchen knife.
