Man Faces Felony Charge for Shooting Niece’s Ex-Boyfriend
In a disturbing incident that took place in the early hours of Jan. 31, 2024, a 32-year-old man was arrested for allegedly shooting his niece’s ex-boyfriend in the 5000 block of Nolensville Pike in Nashville, Tennessee.
911 Call Leads Officers to the Scene
Authorities were alerted to the shooting after receiving a 911 call about a gunshot victim at the location. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered that the victim had been taken to Southern Hills Hospital by a private vehicle before being transferred to Skyline Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
Victim’s Account of the Incident
According to court documents, the victim, who was expecting his ex-girlfriend to visit his apartment to collect her belongings, was confronted by the uncle of his former partner. The uncle, identified as Melvin Varela-Alvarado, allegedly shot the victim in the abdomen and leg during a heated confrontation.
Quick Action and Arrest
Despite his injuries, the victim managed to flee to a vehicle and was rushed to the hospital by his cousin, who witnessed the entire altercation. Following an investigation, detectives were able to identify Varela-Alvarado as the suspect responsible for the shooting.
