According to court documents obtained by KIRO 7 News from the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office, the victim, identified as 52-year-old Melissa Davis, was brutally attacked by her partner, Michael Cooley. The incident took place in front of the North G Street Apartments, owned by the Tacoma Housing Authority, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The Shocking Details
The investigation revealed that a security member patrolling the area discovered Cooley near the victim, who was lying on the ground with a large pool of blood near her head. Cooley was seen rubbing the victim’s back before claiming that everything was fine. Subsequently, detectives found a bloody concrete block near a tree, which had traces of blood leading back to where the victim’s body was found.
A History of Violence
Cooley, who has a prior conviction for second-degree murder in Virginia in 1986, confessed to punching and stomping Davis over 50 times in a fit of rage. The couple had been in a relationship since January 2024, as confirmed by a friend of the victim. Cooley was arrested in connection to Davis’s death, and his bail was set at $1 million.
