Arrests Made After Shooting Incident in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Three individuals, Gregory Frazier, 31, of Ocala; Bruce Wynne Garniss, 20; and Gene Rubin Rowe, Jr., 26, were taken into custody early this morning following a shooting near the 1000 block of W. University Avenue. Garniss was found with a gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The incident unfolded around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning when several Gainesville Police Department officers responded to reports of gunshots in the area. Multiple calls came in reporting the gunfire, prompting a swift police response.
One of the responding officers spotted Frazier and Rowe walking south through the parking lot in the 1100 block of Alligator Alley. The men appeared agitated and met up with two others before heading west. One of them could be heard saying, “And you’re going to run?”
Alerted by occupants of a vehicle leaving the parking lot, the officer was informed that the four men were involved in the shooting. The officer then approached the group in the 1100 block of SW 1st Avenue and instructed them to stop. One individual walked away, while Frazier, Garniss, and Rowe fled back towards the parking lot. They were apprehended by officers in the vicinity, with Garniss discovered hiding in a vehicle with a gunshot wound.
Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the individual who had walked away was in possession of a firearm that had been discharged. Frazier and Rowe were taken in for questioning at GPD Headquarters, while Garniss was taken to the hospital for medical attention.
Frazier has been charged with resisting an officer without violence. With a history of multiple felony convictions and prison sentences, his criminal record dates back to his most recent release in April 2023. Garniss, on the other hand, faces charges that are currently undisclosed. He has a history of juvenile criminal convictions and is on probation for adult felony offenses. Rowe has been charged with resisting an officer without violence and has a mixture of felony and misdemeanor convictions on his record.
