Four passengers were killed and two others were critically injured when a private bus plunged into a gorge in Yercaud on Tuesday evening. The police said that around 6 p.m., a private bus was heading to Salem from Yercaud with 56 passengers on board. While the bus reached the 13th hairpin bend, the driver lost control of the vehicle in the turning, and the vehicle hit the sidewall. In the impact, the bus fell into the gorge, and landed on the 11th hairpin bend. The deceased were identified as S. Karthick (35), C. Muneeshwaran (11), K. Hari Ram (57), and R. Madhu (60).

Four passengers tragically lost their lives, and two others sustained critical injuries in a devastating accident that occurred on Tuesday evening in Yercaud, a picturesque hill station located in the Salem district of Tamil Nadu.

The Incident

The unfortunate incident took place around 6 p.m. when a private bus, carrying a total of 56 passengers, was en route from Yercaud to Salem. As the bus approached the treacherous 13th hairpin bend on the Yercaud Ghat Road, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while navigating the sharp turn. The bus collided with the sidewall, causing it to plummet into the gorge below and ultimately coming to rest on the 11th hairpin bend.

The Aftermath

Tragically, more than 50 passengers sustained injuries in the accident, with four individuals tragically losing their lives at the scene. The injured victims were promptly transported to Salem Government Hospital for urgent medical attention, with a total of 46 individuals currently receiving treatment, two of whom are listed in critical condition.

The Victims

The deceased individuals were identified as S. Karthick (35) from Andipatti in Salem, C. Muneeshwaran (11) from Tiruchengode in Namakkal district, K. Hari Ram (57) from Kannankurichi in Salem, and R. Madhu (60) from Kitchipalayam in Salem. Meanwhile, the injured survivors hail from various regions, including New Delhi, Salem district, Dharmapuri district, and Namakkal district.

Following the tragic incident, the Yercaud police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
