Five students, including three women, tragically drowned at the confluence of the river Cauvery in Karnataka’s Ramanagara district on Monday. The incident occurred while the students were swimming in the afternoon. They were part of a group of 12 students from an engineering college in Bengaluru who had come to Mekedatu in Kanakapura taluk. The victims were identified as Harshita, Abhishek, Tejas, Varsha, and Sneha, all aged between 19 and 21. The bodies were taken to Dayananda Sagar Hospital for post-mortem, and a case was filed. Tragic Drowning Incident at River Cauvery Confluence in Karnataka

Five students, including three women, tragically drowned at the confluence of the river Cauvery in Karnataka’s Ramanagara district on Monday. The incident occurred when the students were enjoying a leisurely swim in the afternoon. The victims were part of a group of 12 students who had travelled from Bengaluru to Mekedatu in Kanakapura taluk of the district.

Details of the Tragic Incident

All the students involved in the incident were studying at an engineering college in Bengaluru. The deceased students were identified as Harshita (20), Abhishek (20), Tejas (21), Varsha (20), and Sneha (19). While they were swimming, they got caught in a whirlpool and unfortunately drowned. The remaining seven students managed to escape after witnessing their friends’ tragic fate.

Response from Authorities

Following the incident, a case was filed, and the bodies of the victims were sent to Dayananda Sagar Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Ramanagara Superintendent of Police (SP) Karthik Reddy stated, “This afternoon, an incident was reported at Sathnur police station limits. Twelve students went on a trip to Sangama, and unfortunately, five students drowned. Thankfully, no one is currently missing.”

Identification of the Victims

SP Karthik Reddy further added, “We located the bodies of the missing students. They were all students from a Bengaluru college, aged between 19 and 20 years old.”
