The Tucson Police Department Reveals New Details About Early Morning Shooting in Tucson
In a tragic incident that shook the Tucson community, the Tucson Police Department released new information about an early morning shooting that took place on Sunday, April 28. The incident occurred in the 3200 block of East 5th Street, located between Country Club and Alvernon.
Details of the Shooting
According to the Tucson Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 1:40 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered an adult female victim with gunshot wounds outside a residence. The victim, identified as 20-year-old Erin Jones, was rushed to the hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries.
President Robert Robbins of the University of Arizona expressed his condolences and offered support to Erin’s family and friends. The university community is mourning the loss of Erin, a sophomore student at the institution.
Mental Health Support Offered
In the wake of the tragedy, President Robbins announced the availability of mental health support for students who may require assistance. The university is committed to providing resources and support during this difficult time.
Additional Victims and Ongoing Investigation
In addition to Erin Jones, another adult shooting victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Two more individuals, a teen female and an adult male, arrived at local hospitals in personal vehicles for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The Tucson Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting. It is believed that a large gathering took place at the residence prior to the incident, with several witnesses leaving the area before law enforcement arrived.
