A Village Defence Guard (VDG) member who was injured during a gunfight with terrorists has tragically passed away in Udhampur. The deceased, identified as Mohammad Shareef, was a resident of Lower Ponar, Basantgarh. Security forces have cordoned off the area and are conducting a search operation under the supervision of ADG Jammu and Udhampur Police. IGP Anand Jain confirmed that the VDG member was hit by terrorists, prompting a retaliation from the security forces. The region has been sealed off to track down and neutralise the infiltrators. The incident unfolded after the police received information about suspicious individuals in the area.

Tragic Loss of Village Defence Guard in Udhampur
A Village Defence Guard (VDG) member, Mohammad Shareef (48), tragically lost his life after sustaining injuries during an exchange of fire with terrorists in the picturesque Chochru Gala heights of Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir.
Shareef, a brave resident of Lower Ponar, Basantgarh, valiantly fought against the terrorists but succumbed to his injuries on Sunday. The entire area has been cordoned off as security forces work tirelessly to ensure the safety of the residents.
Search Operation Underway
The reinforcement team has already reached the spot, with ADG Jammu and the Police officer of Udhampur closely monitoring the search operation. Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Anand Jain, provided insight into the situation, stating that further investigation and search operations are currently ongoing.
Jain highlighted the fact that this was a fresh infiltration group in the area, making the operation even more critical. The entire region has been cordoned off as security forces work diligently to trace and neutralize the terrorists.
Police Activation and Face-off
Authorities were alerted to the presence of suspicious individuals in Basantgarh police station limits of Udhampur district late last evening. This prompted the activation of the security grid, with a police party, including VDG members, proceeding towards Chochru Gala Heights.
Upon reaching the area, a face-off ensued between the police party and the group of hiding terrorists. Unfortunately, in the initial exchange of fire, a VDG member sustained injuries, leading to the tragic loss of Mohammad Shareef.
The J-K Police have been working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of the residents in the region, with continuous search operations and investigations underway to address the threat posed by the infiltrating terrorists.
