A tragic accident occurred when a grandmother and her 20-year-old grandson were fishing together and the grandmother fell into the water after her fishing line got tangled in a tree. The grandson bravely jumped in to rescue her and performed CPR with the help of a 911 dispatcher until first responders arrived. Despite their efforts, the grandmother, identified as 72-year-old Margie Sheppard, was pronounced dead at Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin hospital. The incident took place at a private pond off Butler Road in Milledgeville. The family is devastated by the loss of their beloved grandmother in this heartbreaking boating accident.
A grandmother and her 20-year-old grandson were enjoying a relaxing fishing trip on Saturday morning when tragedy struck. The peaceful outing took a devastating turn when the woman’s fishing line became entangled in a tree, leading to a heartbreaking chain of events.
The Unfortunate Incident
As the woman attempted to free her line from the tree, she lost her balance and fell into the water. The woman, identified as 72-year-old Margie Sheppard, lived nearby, and her grandson, Lance Brookins, 20, rushed to her aid.
Heroic Efforts
Brookins bravely jumped into the water to rescue his grandmother. He managed to bring her to shore before calling 911 for help. A dispatcher from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office guided him through CPR steps until emergency responders arrived on the scene.
Life-Saving Measures
Upon arrival, firefighters and first responders from Baldwin County Fire Rescue and Atrium Navicent Emergency Medical Services administered life-saving measures to Sheppard. She was then transported to Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin Hospital in Milledgeville, where she was sadly pronounced dead.
