At around 5:30 a.m., BSO Pompano Beach district deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded to a crash involving an on-duty deputy and a pedestrian. The deputy involved in the incident was identified as 24-year-old Wyatt Jennesse. The pedestrian, tragically pronounced dead on the scene, was later identified as 28-year-old Jamil Moreland from Fort Lauderdale.

According to investigators, Jennesse was responding to a lewd and lascivious report near North Powerline Road. He was driving westbound on MLK in the left-thru lane after passing through the intersection of Northwest 15th Avenue. Meanwhile, Moreland was either lying or in a crouched position in the road when Jennesse’s vehicle struck him. The deputy stopped and reported the incident immediately.

Investigators have stated that Moreland was allegedly the individual related to the call Jennesse was responding to, and no other injuries were reported. Driver impairment, excessive speed, and mechanical malfunction are currently not considered to be contributing factors to the incident as the investigation continues.
