The Ekiti State Police Command is investigating the reported killing of a woman, Arinola, by her husband, Dare, in the Adebayo area of Ado Ekiti. The incident, reported by the couple’s children, occurred on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Allegedly, the couple was involved in a fight over allegations of infidelity, resulting in injuries to both parties. Despite neighbors’ attempts to intervene, Arinola succumbed to her injuries before reaching the hospital. The man is currently receiving treatment under police monitoring. In response to rising incidents of domestic violence, Governor Biodun Oyebanji inaugurated the state GBV Management Committee to address the issue.

In a shocking turn of events, a woman named Arinola was reportedly killed by her husband, Dare, in the Adebayo area of Ado Ekiti, the state capital. The incident, which occurred on either Friday evening or Saturday morning, has left the community reeling with shock and disbelief.

Neighbours Intervene in the Fight

According to sources, the couple’s children were the ones who alerted the authorities to the violent altercation between their parents. It is said that the couple locked themselves inside their home, leaving their five-year-old child alone while they engaged in a heated argument. The fight reportedly escalated when Dare accused Arinola of infidelity, sparking a physical confrontation between them.

Neighbours who heard the commotion attempted to intervene but found the door locked. In a desperate bid to separate the couple, they had to remove parts of the ceiling to gain entry. When they finally managed to get inside, they discovered both Arinola and Dare with severe injuries, with Arinola appearing unconscious. She was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately, she did not survive the ordeal.

Police Investigation and Community Response

The Ekiti State Police Command has launched an investigation into the matter, with Dare currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital under police supervision. The tragic incident has prompted calls for greater awareness and action against domestic violence in the state.
