In the early hours of Monday, police in Pittsburg, Kansas, spotted a person riding a scooter in the area of West Martin Avenue and South Georgia Street. The driver crashed while attempting a turn, and was identified as 32-year-old John D. Robertson Jr. of Frontenac. Police officers who were on routine patrol in the area observed a subject riding a scooter in the vicinity. The driver of the scooter attempted to make a turn onto Martin Avenue from Georgia Street but failed to navigate the turn successfully, resulting in a wreck at the intersection.
The driver, later identified as 32-year-old John D. Robertson Jr. from Frontenac, Kansas, provided a false name to the investigating officer at the scene. Further investigation revealed that the scooter had been reported stolen in Pittsburg.
