A man has been jailed for multiple offences relating to the making and distribution of indecent images of children following a Met investigation. In March 2023, specialist Met officers received information about Arif Azad, now 21, of Newham. Their investigation established that Azad had accessed nearly 6,000 indecent images of children online – 3,500 of which were identified as being in the most extreme category. PC Ella Rose, one of the Met’s Safeguarding officers, said: “Although there was no evidence that Azad had met with a child while committing these offences, he is undoubtedly a paedophile whose behaviour was becoming increasingly concerning. On 19 April 2024, Arif Azad was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court to four years’ imprisonment – two years for the making, distribution and possession of indecent images and another two years for engaging in sexual communication with a child and possession of the paedophile manual. Azad, who had pleaded guilty at the same court on 25 October 2023, will be subject to Sex Offender Notification Requirements for life and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years.

Man Jailed for Indecent Images of Children in Newham

A 21-year-old man named Arif Azad has been sentenced to four years in prison for multiple offences related to the making and distribution of indecent images of children in Newham. The Metropolitan Police launched an investigation into Azad after receiving information in March 2023.

Met Investigation Uncovers Disturbing Evidence

Specialist officers from the Met discovered that Azad had accessed nearly 6,000 indecent images of children online, with 3,500 of them falling into the most extreme category. It was also revealed that some of these images were sent to Azad by an unknown child he had been communicating with online.

PC Ella Rose, a Safeguarding officer at the Met, expressed her concerns about Azad’s behaviour, stating that he was undoubtedly a paedophile whose actions were becoming increasingly troubling. She commended the officers from the Online Child Sexual Abuse Exploitation Team for their dedication in bringing Azad to justice.

Discovery of Paedophile Manual

Prior to his arrest, Azad downloaded a ‘paedophile manual’ that provided instructions on how to commit sexual offences against children as young as two months old. Evidence retrieved from his electronic devices also confirmed that he had engaged in online communications with children on multiple occasions.
