In a heartbreaking turn of events, a 71-year-old woman named Connie Vang was tragically shot and killed in Yellow Springs earlier this month. The incident occurred in the 600 block of S. High Street on the evening of March 14, sending shockwaves through the tight-knit community.

According to reports, police were called to the residence following reports of an assault. Dispatchers informed the responding officer that Vang had sustained a gunshot wound, prompting the officer to request immediate backup.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found two of Vang’s children present. They had been in different parts of the house when the tragic incident occurred. Vang’s son recounted hearing a knock on the door, followed by a conversation between his mother and an unknown person. He then heard a loud bang and rushed to find his mother on the ground, with the screen door shattered.

Suspect Apprehended

Initially named a person of interest, 22-year-old Jackson Bleything was later identified as a suspect in the shooting. He was arrested on March 17 by Clark County Sheriff’s deputies and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation agents in Clark County. Bleything faces charges of attempted felonious assault, tampering with evidence, and possessing criminal tools in Xenia Municipal Court.
