San Pablo Man Charged with Murder in Connection with Disappearance of Wife and Mother-in-Law

A 40-year-old man from San Pablo is facing murder charges in relation to the disappearance and deaths of his wife and mother-in-law last autumn, according to authorities.

Phuc Vo reported to the authorities on September 13 that he had not seen his wife, 40-year-old Tho Ngoc Ly, and mother-in-law, 74-year-old Que Thi Tran, since September 6. They allegedly left home for Southern California in Ly’s 2017 Honda Fit following a family dispute, as stated by the San Pablo Police Department in a press release on Monday.

Despite receiving information suggesting that Ly and Tran had travelled to that part of the state, it could not be verified and their whereabouts remained unknown.

As detectives delved deeper into the case, they uncovered discrepancies in Vo’s account regarding his wife’s car, which he was observed driving and was later found in Oakland on December 5, as per the police report.

Vo was then identified as a person of interest in the investigation and subsequently a suspect based on additional evidence gathered during the probe. The police stated that “it was believed Vo had direct involvement in the disappearance and murders of Tho Ly and Que Tran.”

On February 29, authorities executed a search warrant at the family residence on Sutter Avenue. Vo was taken into custody and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility.

The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office officially charged Vo with two counts of murder, with a special circumstance enhancement. He is currently being held in custody.

The investigation is ongoing, and the whereabouts of the victims’ remains have not yet been confirmed by the police.

Individuals with any information relevant to the case are urged to contact the police department on 510-215-3150.
