Three Dead in Mossville Three-Vehicle Collision

The Peoria County Coroner has provided additional information regarding a tragic three-vehicle collision that occurred on Saturday afternoon in Mossville, resulting in the deaths of three individuals.

The incident took place at approximately 2:30 PM at the intersection of Route 6 and 29 in Mossville.

According to Coroner Jamie Harwood, preliminary investigations and eyewitness testimonies suggest that a van driven by 97-year-old Charles Mundy from Chillicothe was travelling southbound on Route 29 and failed to stop at a red traffic light at the intersection. This lapse in judgement triggered a chain reaction crash involving a pickup truck and a midsize SUV, both of which were making turns onto Route 29.

Unfortunately, Mundy succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to OSF St. Francis Medical Center.

The two occupants of the small SUV have been identified as 72-year-old Victor Snodgrass and his 71-year-old wife, Norma Snodgrass, both residents of Chillicothe. They were also transported to the hospital following the collision, where they tragically passed away.

All three victims suffered multiple blunt-force trauma injuries and are believed to have perished within seconds of the impact. Toxicology reports are currently pending, in accordance with Illinois State Statute requirements.

A fourth individual involved in the crash sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation, with State Police overseeing the case.
