Accident – Death – Obituary News : A tragic incident occurred in Krishnagiri, where a 32-year-old spectator lost his life during a jallikattu event near Mathur. The victim, identified as G Govindaraj, a farmer from Palethottam village, was fatally gored by a bull that unexpectedly entered the spectators’ gallery. The villagers from Athikanur had organized the traditional bull-taming event, which attracted thousands of participants from Mathur and surrounding areas.

Despite the efforts of fellow villagers who rushed Govindaraj to the government hospital in Mathur, the doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. The grieving family and villagers blamed the district administration and police for failing to ensure adequate safety measures at the event. They even refused to allow a postmortem on the victim’s body and staged a protest to demand compensation from the government.

The situation escalated as the protesters voiced their concerns to the Mathur police and revenue officials. After two hours of intense discussions, the officials assured the villagers of prompt action, leading to the dispersal of the crowd. Krishnagiri district SP P Thangadurai defended the arrangements made by the authorities for the jallikattu event, stating that the bull’s intrusion occurred after a round of the bull-taming competition.

A case has been registered, and further inquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the risks associated with traditional events like jallikattu and the importance of ensuring safety protocols are strictly enforced to prevent such unfortunate outcomes. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of G Govindaraj during this difficult time..
