Rajshahi, Bangladesh – Two people lost their lives in a tragic train accident today when a Dhaka-bound Padma Express collided with a locally-made three-wheeler on an unprotected rail crossing in Paba upazila.

Gopal Karmaker, the officer-in-charge of General Railway Police Station of Rajshahi, identified the victims as the driver, Mofazzal, and the lone passenger, Habib.

The incident occurred around 4:00pm in the Mohonpur area. Both Mofazzal and Habib, who were approximately 30 years old, were killed on the spot. The three-wheeler was completely crushed due to the impact of the collision.

An eyewitness named Dulal stated that Habib was transporting firewood in the cart at the time of the accident.

Until recently, the rail crossing was unprotected. However, two members of Ansar were deployed there as a safety measure. Unfortunately, they were not present at the scene during the accident.

The bodies of the victims have been sent to Rahshahi Medical College morgue for autopsy. Gopal Karmaker confirmed that an unnatural death case will be filed in relation to this incident.
