32-Year-Old Idaho Man Pleads Guilty to Brutal Neighbor Family Massacre
A 32-year-old man in Idaho is facing a lifetime in prison after confessing to breaking into his neighbor’s home and brutally killing all four members of the family, including two teenagers, on Father’s Day earlier this year. Majorjon Kaylor, the perpetrator, admitted that he carried out the vicious attack as an act of vengeance.
In a shocking turn of events, Majorjon Kaylor formally pleaded guilty to four counts of second-degree murder. The victims of the slayings were identified as Kenneth Guardipee, 65, Kenna Guardipee, 41, Devin Smith, 18, and Aiken Smith, 16, according to court documents obtained by Law&Crime.
Kaylor claimed that he reached his breaking point after witnessing the 18-year-old victim expose himself to his wife and young daughter. This incident triggered his violent rampage, leading to the tragic deaths of the entire family.
Originally charged with four counts of first-degree murder and an additional charge of felony burglary, Kaylor agreed to a plea deal that resulted in the murder charges being reduced to second-degree and the dismissal of the burglary charge.
The plea deal was reached after extensive discussions between the parties involved in the case, including the surviving family members of the victims, mediated by a senior district judge.
Background of the Brutal Massacre
Law&Crime previously reported that on June 18, deputies from the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office responded to a distressing 911 call reporting multiple shootings and deaths at a residence on West Brown Avenue in Kellogg, Idaho. The crime scene was located approximately 50 miles from the state’s western border with Washington.
Upon arrival, first responders took Majorjon Kaylor, who was believed to be connected to the deaths, into custody. He was later charged with the four murders.
According to investigators, the shooting occurred following a dispute between neighbors. The victims resided in the lower apartment of a duplex, while Kaylor and his family occupied the upstairs apartment. The families had only been living in close proximity for a few weeks prior to the tragic incident.
Based on a probable cause affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, the massacre occurred less than a week after Kaylor and his family filed a report accusing Devin Smith of indecent exposure. Kaylor’s wife claimed that on June 13, Smith stood naked in his ground-level bedroom window and masturbated in front of her and their young daughter, who were playing outside at the time.
Kellogg Police Chief Paul Twidt defended the actions of his officer, stating, “We responded to the call, investigated the call, and the report was done that day and submitted to the prosecutor’s office for charges. I stand by what my officer did, and he did everything he could at the time. Nobody could have foreseen anything like this.”
Confession and Motive
Following his arrest, Majorjon Kaylor confessed to the killings, revealing that he approached Kenna Guardipee and her father to discuss the incident involving Devin Smith. However, their lack of seriousness towards the matter angered him, pushing him over the edge.
Kaylor admitted that he “snapped” and “lost it,” taking matters into his own hands. The indictment stated that all four murders were committed as an act of vengeance.
The bodies of the Guardipee family were found just outside the rear entrance of the home, while the Smith brothers were discovered inside. Each victim had suffered a gunshot wound to the head, with authorities recovering a .45 caliber handgun from the scene.
Majorjon Kaylor is currently scheduled for his sentencing hearing on March 25, 2024.
