Robbery Involved in Springville Shooting Case, New Search Warrants Reveal

SPRINGVILLE, Utah — The investigation into the shooting death of 23-year-old Michael “Mikey” Mayer in Springville has taken a new turn as recently obtained search warrants suggest that Mayer was a victim of armed robbery before he was fatally shot. Although the identity of the shooter remains unknown, law enforcement officials continue to follow leads to uncover the truth behind this tragic incident.

The shooting occurred in the early morning hours of November 18 at an apartment complex near the intersection of 200 South and 100 West. Responding to the incident, the police found Mayer with a gunshot wound and rushed him to the hospital. Unfortunately, Mayer succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. As the investigation unfolded, three individuals were detained for questioning. While two were subsequently released, 43-year-old Amanda Bird was arrested for obstruction of justice in connection with the case.

During her initial statement, Bird implicated Valdo Kwadwo Dapaa as the perpetrator of the murder. However, she later recanted her statement, claiming that she felt compelled to falsely accuse Dapaa to avoid prosecution herself. When the police arrived at the crime scene, Bird was observed near the area, attempting to conceal her presence. Despite orders to stop, she fled to a nearby apartment and refused to exit for several hours. Eventually, officers obtained a search warrant to apprehend her for questioning.

Alongside Bird, Valdo Kwadwo Dapaa and Arianna Dapaa were also taken into custody but were later released after questioning. On Monday, FOX 13 News obtained search warrants from the day of the fatal shooting, shedding light on an eyewitness account of the incident. According to the witness, they were on the phone with Mayer as he drove home from work. During the call, the witness overheard a man demanding Mayer’s money. Mayer informed the caller that his money was in the driver’s side door and urged them to hang up and dial 911, which they promptly did.

Another witness to the events was Mayer’s brother, who received a phone call alerting him that Mayer was being robbed (the documents did not specify who made the call). Mayer’s brother rushed outside his apartment, located in close proximity to the shooting, and discovered Mayer lying on the ground with a gunshot wound.

The search warrants also unveiled additional details regarding the police’s request for warrants to enter the apartment where Amanda Bird was allegedly hiding. Additionally, warrants were sought for blood and urine samples from Bird, Amber Bird (their relationship unspecified), Valdo Kwadwo Dapaa, and Trenton Dante Noble. During Bird’s time inside the apartment, she engaged in a phone conversation with dispatch, during which dispatchers reported hearing two males in the background—one crying and the other providing comfort. Police determined that Valdo Dapaa was one of the males present, and the other individual was likely Trenton Dante Noble, Dapaa’s son. Although Noble’s name appeared in the search warrant, it seems he was not among those held for questioning.

As of Tuesday, December 12, Amanda Bird remains the only person named in the search warrants to be charged in connection with Mayer’s murder.
